I was born in Savannah, GA. At Denbigh High I not only lettered in football but I also lettered in basketball, earning all-area and all-conference honors my senior year. In 2008, I hosted my first football camp in my hometown of Newport News. I also enjoy be part of the Colts "Tackle Diabetes" events where kids get to participate in a number of activities on the practice field with the various members of the teams.

As a three-year starter at Howard, Bethea made 309 stops that included 187 solo tackles and twelve for a loss, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 18 passes defensed and seven interceptions. He also returned two recoveries for a touchdown: one coming on a blocked kick and the other on a fumble recovery, both returned 26 yards.
As a Colt Rookie he started 14 games at SS and FS.
