Freeney
When I spent time with David Garrard during the Jaguars minicamp, I had a chance to ask him about the worst hit he ever absorbed.
He didn't need to pause to think about it:
"Dwight Freeney. I've been playing him since college, and the biggest hit was in college. We were on the 3-yard line and I had a three-step drop. By the time my foot hit, I felt like my shoulders exploded out of my back. Because he put his helmet right in my back. It was just a three-step drop, and he was already there, that fast. That's his thing. When you're playing him on turf, he is so fast. ...
"I got up yelling at my tight end and my left tackle because we were double teaming him and I couldn't believe that he not just beat them, but that he beat the double team that fast. He's a heck of a player. ...
"There are sometimes you're just trying to get to your last step, your receiver's there, you've just got to get your foot down, and sometimes he's already on you before you can even do it, and it's ridiculous.
"He gets so low to the ground when he scoops around that end and we play him twice a year, so he's somebody that we always move our line to, send two guys at, chipping him. He has been a thorn in my back. He's a great guy, a good friend of mine, but on that field, he has no mercy."
