I am the son of Stephanie Green and my late father John Monroe and the youngest of 16 (10 brothers and six sisters) so as you can imagine I know a little about competition. Throughout my career I’ve proven I can block anybody. I have the determination to improve my game and the ambition to succeed and I never stop. I continue to set goals. When one step is completed, I set another goal. I make sure I do everything in my power to achieve that. If I can’t, I’ll reset everything and I’ll go back to the drawing board and just continue to grind.

College awards and records:
As a freshman at the University of Virginia, Monroe played left tackle and right guard and played in every game. In 2006 at left tackle, he allowed just four quarterback pressures and no sacks on 345 pass plays in the 12 games played. As a junior in 2007 Gene earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition after starting 11 games at left tackle, missing two games due to knee injury. He registered 55 knockdowns and led ACC linemen with 15 touchdown-resulting blocks, giving up no sacks and allowing one quarterback pressure on 428 pass attempts. In 2008 Gene was a Unanimous All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and was awarded the 2008 Jacobs Trophy as the best blocker in the ACC. He started all twelve games at left offensive tackle and registered a school season-record 105 knockdowns, according to the coaching staff and had blocking consistency grade of 88.42%. He graduated the University of Virginia a semester early with a degree in Sociology.
