I was a three-year starter for the Wolverines, playing both tackle and guard. As a junior, I started at left tackle and earned first-team All-Big Ten Conference honors in addition to 3rd-team All-America honors. As a sophomore, I was the recipient of the Hugh Rader Award, given annually to the team's top offensive lineman.
I was entered into the Carman-Ainsworth High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002 and sponsor the annual Jon Runyan classic, a track meet featuring nine local high schools. His 178-foot, 1-inch throw of the discus in 1992 remains the school record. He was also nationally ranked in the shot put (59 feet, 5 inches) that year.
