Personal notes:
Leonard grew up in Melbourne, FL, in a large family with 11 brothers and sisters. His neighborhood was full of temptations, large number of the kids were involved in drugs and gangs. In school, Leonard found his talent in sports, playing basketball, football, baseball and track. In the process he also learned how to mentor others and develop his leadership skills.

Leonard’s faith and community involvement are of great importance to him. He had been nicknamed "The Bishop" in college and "Church Van" in Seattle, for his proclivity to spend free time traveling with a ministry in the off-season singing Christian themed R&B music. Leonard became a minister after training with AME Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. One day he plans to start his own church. Leonard also hopes to purchase a studio to produce his own Gospel and R&B music some day.
He started the Leonard Weaver Family Foundation to help those with diabetes and to spread knowledge about the disease. His inspiration came from his grandmother, who tragically died of diabetes during his rookie season.

COLLEGE AWARDS AND RECORDS: Weaver began his college football career in 2001 at Carson-Newman College as a linebacker, making nine tackles in two starts as a redshirt freshman. The next year he moved to tight end. In 2003, Weaver hauled in 16 receptions for 410 yards and six TDs. In the Division II Playoffs that year, he made a 67 yard touchdown reception.
In his final year, still a TE, Weaver earned Division II All-American honors from the AP, American Football Coaches Association and others. He lead the 9-3 Carson-Newman Eagles to a conference championship and the 2nd round of the Division II playoffs with 27 catches for 571 yards and 8 touchdowns, leading all Eagles receivers.
