Eagles rally late to complete sweep of Redskins
It was over when ...
Jason Campbell's throw to Santana Moss on fourth-and-1 bounced off the ground, allowing the Eagles to take over on downs and run out the clock. The victory keeps Philadelphia within a game of Dallas and leaves Washington with an 0-4 mark in the NFC East.
Game ball
With the Eagles looking flat and discombobulated offensively, it was scrappy wideout Jason Avant who turned the tide. He had two catches for 66 yards on Philadelphia's tying touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, and though he then left with an injury, his pair of receptions ignited an offense that had gone three-and-out on every one of its possessions in the second half.
Key Stat
In a game that was very evenly played, it was the Eagles' ability to force turnovers that proved to be the difference. Philadelphia intercepted Campbell twice and turned that into six points, while Washington scored three points off its lone interception.
Noteworthy
The Eagles swept the Redskins for the first time since 2006. ... Philadelphia rookie RB Eldra Buckley scored his first career touchdown. ... Washington lost CB Fred Smoot and FB Mike Sellers in the fourth quarter to injuries. Neither returned. ... Redskins CB Justin Tryon had his first career interception.

In the secondary, tackling has been a concern, and more and more, it seems LaRon Landry's impact is limited by positioning. Though Chris Horton began the year as starting strong safety, Reed Doughty has assumed most of the playing time and has developed into a force, particularly behind the line of scrimmage. His three tackles-for-losses are second on the team. Justin Tryon has emerged as the team's preferred nickelback. Read Full Story
For the last couple of weeks, I've been hearing that second-year cornerback Justin Tryon has been making strides in practice.
Tryon struggled when the coaches gave him opportunities in preseason games, and was burned repeatedly in coverage in the 2008 preseason as a rookie. But with nickel corner Fred Smoot slowed by a rib injury recently, Tryon has taken more reps at nickel in practice. Read Full Story

Playing in the slot, second-year nickel cornerback Justin Tryon had his best performance in the 16-13 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tryon had a sack on a corner blitz and covered and tackled well, apparently strengthening his position in the defensive backfield rotation.
Top corner DeAngelo Hall has played in the slot often to this point, but the Redskins would prefer to have him cover outside receivers. It's too early to determine whether Tryon could become consistently effective in the slot, but the Redskins plan to give him an opportunity to try. Read Full Story
