While Culpepper has been back at practice since last week, and Stafford has been able to practice three straight days now, the Lions got more good news for their offense Thursday, when Calvin Johnson (knee) practiced for the first time since injuring his knee against the Steelers. Johnson, DT Sammie Hill, FB Jerome Felton and DE Turk McBride — all full- or part-time starters — were limited in practice, while LB Zack Follett (illness), DE Jason Hunter (ankle) and DT Grady Jackson (knee) were held out of workouts.
Turk McBride was solid in the Detroit Lions' loss to the Packers. He finished with five tackles and 1.5 sacks.

'Turk' feels comfortable in Lions' 4-3 defense

It would be hard to find anyone around the NFL familiar with the name Claude Maurice McBride.
That's because Claude Maurice McBride is better known as "Turk" McBride, defensive tackle for the Lions.
"It's just a family nickname and it kind of got stuck as I got recruited," McBride said. "College coaches wanted to feel closer to me so they started calling me Turk and it just blossomed from there.

Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham knows McBride from when the two were in Kansas City together. Cunningham was the Chiefs' coordinator when the team spent a second-round pick on McBride in 2007.
