Earned Parade and Super Prep All-America honors as a senior at Woodrow Wilson High School. Named all-state, all-area, all-conference and All-South Jersey after recording 67 tackles, 16.0 sacks, one INT, four fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and four blocked punts as a senior.
Tallied 60 tackles, 13.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two of which he returned for TDs as well as four blocked field goals in his junior campaign. Also posted 24 catches for 486 yards and nine TDs on offense that season.
Competed in track and field in the shot put, discus and 100 meters.
Inducted into the South Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

McBride divided his time between the defensive tackle and defensive end position at Tennessee. He started four games his sophomore season and the entire season his senior year. He was named the SEC defensive lineman of the week once in 2004 and once in 2006. Following the 2006 season, McBride was named to the Sporting News All SEC team.
